Born and raised in Hawai`i, Randy graduated from Punahou School in 1993. After high school, he went on to college at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, where he received a degree in Mathematics in 1997. He returned to the islands and attended law school at the University of Hawai`i's William S. Richardson School of Law, graduating in 2000.

After passing the bar in July 2000, Randy went on to clerk for the Honorable Karen S. S. Ahn of the Circuit Court of the First Circuit (Oahu). While clerking, he had the invaluable opportunity to observe dozens of jury trials. It was during this clerkship that he developed a passion for criminal defense and becoming a trial attorney.

Randy is proud to have served as a Deputy Public Defender for almost ten years. After two-and-a-half years of defending individuals charged with misdemeanor offenses, he was promoted to the felony division and assigned to represent people charged with more serious crimes. After only two more years, Randy was promoted again, and for the last five years as a public defender was trusted to handle those clients charged with the most serious offenses in the State of Hawai`i.

Randy has tried dozens of cases before juries on all manner of offenses, including Murder, Sexual Assault, Robbery, Kidnapping, Assault, Theft, Identity Crimes and Drug offenses, to name just a few. His clients have been the beneficiaries of countless acquittals, dismissals and lesser-included offenses.

In his free time, Randy enjoys playing golf, watching sports and spending time with his family.
